The Questions:

1. What is the best lesson you’ve learned from a personal experience?

I’ve learned from my two years of high school experience to focus on yourself and stop caring about inconsequential people’s opinions of you.

2. Cats or dogs?

Dogs; I have a dog, so I don’t really have a choice in the matter. Finn might be offended if I said cats.

3. What inspires you the most?

This may or may not sound blunt, but I’d say what inspires me the most is success. Whether it’s someone else’s success, in which case I’m inspired to work as hard as them, or my own success, in which case I’m encouraged to keep going, if I had to choose the overarching thing that inspires me, it would be success or the prospect of success.

I don’t just mean success in the shallow sense of the word; I also mean fulfillment or happiness. Just general success in life.

4. Which is your favorite book? Why?

This is really hard because I have favorite books in different categories. Can’t-stop-thinking-about-it books? 1984 by George Orwell. Inspiring books? Educated by Tara Westover. Nostalgic books? Harry Potter.

5. If you could go back in time, which year would you visit? Why?

2019. It deserved more appreciation.

6. Describe yourself in four words.

I didn’t know how to answer this, so I texted my friends to answer for me:

• “Hard-working, thoughtful, kind, smart”
• “Dedicated, inspirational, considerate, knowledgeable”
• “Smart, determined, goal-oriented, logical”
• “Intelligent, hard-working, responsible, compassionate”

7. Which period of life would you want to relive again?

September-December 2019. This part of the year is always my favorite, but last year it was especially fun. Fall, a new school year, pumpkin spice, my birthday, homecoming, football games, sweaters, Thanksgiving, Christmas music, and most importantly, NO CORONAVIRUS.

8. What does your blog mean to you?

I always think of these long monologues, whether it’s my opinion on a book or a rant about something else. But I can’t ever say them to people because they’re usually not relevant to conversation.

One day in March when quarantine had just started and I was looking for something to do with myself, I thought, wouldn’t it be fun if I had a blog where I could write these things down? I wouldn’t even have to talk to anyone. I could just type them up from my laptop and publish them to the entire world. It’s like when you think of the perfect response days after a conversation. Except when you write, you can publish the perfect response the first time. So I created a WordPress account.

Essentially, my blog is me, but how I sound in my head. My mom- who reads all my posts and likes to embarrass me by quoting them- has said that how I sound on my blog is what my real personality is like. As opposed to the apparent fake personality I project in real life, I guess. I’d have to agree with that statement.

9. What advice would you want to give your younger self?

Please don’t be obnoxious.

Be VERY glad if you didn’t know me in elementary/middle school. You know how Hermione acts in the first Harry Potter book? That was me.

10. How would you describe the world in four sentences?

Right now? The world is a confusing and chaotic mess. Dare I say, we are facing unprecedented circumstances. I hope that life can return to normal as soon as possible.

11. Why do you write?

Here is the cheesiest thing I will ever say on this blog (though I believe I’ve said this before): writing is a way for me to express myself. Like I mentioned in the earlier question about what my blog means to me, writing allows me to express my opinions through words- because I am way better at writing than at talking- and post my rants/monologues somewhere besides in overly long text messages to my friends.

I also just like writing in general. Even writing essays is somewhat satisfying; I like composing sentences and using words. Sometimes I’ll phrase a sentence in a certain way JUST to include a vocabulary word I like. Blogging gives me an excuse to write stuff without needing to think of a whole story plot, which I’m kind of bad at. For me, analyzing books is much easier than writing them, but I do want to change that in the future.
